Polyrhachis dives

Polyrhachis dives are an arboreal weaver ant, meaning they nest above the group, using silk produced by their Larva to weave bits of debris into a nest.

Nests are well ventilated with multiple air holes, allowing for good air flow and no build-up of toxic chemicals.

Polyrhachis dives can be slow to found, but speed up greatly as numbers increase, they also become more aggressive towards prey and each other.

Polyrhachis dives will kill weaker or injured workers to keep the colony strong.

Polyrhachis dives do not hibernate as they are from a tropic area, they will slow down brood production if not kept at high temperatures, often needing high humidity also.

Polyrhachis dives can have multiple Queens within the nest and can create more fertile egg laying Queens.

Often if a colony gets too big, one queen and a portion of workers will create a satellite nest, which although is separate, works in conjunction with the main nest.

  • Unlike the Green Asian Weaver Ant, Polyrhachis dives like to form their nest on lower branches and bushes, as opposed to high in the canopy.

  • They have a formic acid but tend to bite first and only use it on larger aggressors.
